As Nigeria inches toward the 2027 elections, the political heat is already rising and not just between candidates.
Former SGF Babachir Lawal recently stirred controversy with a blunt claim: if elections are decided by manipulation, then no one can defeat President Bola Tinubu.
Tinubu, already holding his party’s ticket, is expected to face strong opponents like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi. But Lawal’s statement shifts the focus from personalities to the system itself suggesting the real contest may not be about popularity, but about control.
His remarks came shortly after he resigned from the ADC, alleging irregularities in its primary election and calling the process compromised.
Interestingly, Lawal backs no candidate. Instead, he stands on the sidelines, raising concerns about credibility across the board even warning that some alternatives may not offer better leadership.
As echoes of the disputed 2023 election still linger, one question grows louder:
Will 2027 be decided by the people or by the system behind the scenes?
