Nvidia is set to join OpenAIโ€™s latest funding round, with an agreement that could be finalized as early as this weekend, according to reports. While the company declined to comment officially, its chief executive Jensen Huang has made clear that the investment will be โ€œhuge.โ€

Huang dismissed speculation that Nvidia was backing away from its plan, calling such reports โ€œcomplete nonsense.โ€ He emphasized that Nvidia views OpenAI as โ€œone of the most consequential companies of our timeโ€ and confirmed that the firm will invest heavily in the round being closed by OpenAIโ€™s CEO, Sam Altman.

The funding round is expected to value OpenAI at around $850 billion, underscoring the scale of investor confidence in generative AI. Nvidia, already the leading supplier of processors powering large language models like ChatGPT, stands to benefit further as developers race to build GPUโ€‘driven data centers for the next wave of AI services.

Despite market concerns over the energy demands and costs of AI infrastructure, the momentum behind OpenAIโ€™s expansion and Nvidiaโ€™s role in it shows no signs of slowing.
