Waxwings sometimes gorge on fermented berries after freeze–thaw weather. The ethanol hits fast, and these speedy eaters can stumble, nap on the ground, or crash into windows until they sober up.
If you find a “drunk” bird:
Gently place it in a ventilated box, quiet and shaded.
Keep it away from pets/roads; let it rest.
Don’t give food or water.
Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator if it doesn’t perk up.
Nature can be funny sand fragile. A little help lets these berry fans fly again.
