Scientists have identified a protein that helps spread the effects of aging throughout the body.
This protein, known as ReHMGB1, is released into the bloodstream by aging cells. Once in circulation, it sends signals that cause nearby healthy tissues to act old—slowing down repair, weakening muscle strength, and driving inflammation. In other words, aging behaves less like a local issue within single cells and more like a body-wide chain reaction.
