In 2016, surgeons at Texas Children’s Hospital, led by Dr. Oluyinka Olutoye, operated on a fetus at 23 weeks, removing a sacrococcygeal teratoma while keeping the baby connected to the placenta. Remarkably, the baby was placed back in the womb, carried to 36 weeks, and later born healthy.
