In the smoke and chaos of 9/11, one dog stayed calm and saved lives.
Roselle, a guide dog, was sleeping under her owner’s desk on the 78th floor of the North Tower when the first plane hit.
Amid screaming, shaking walls, and falling debris, she didn’t panic. She stood up, nudged her blind owner Michael Hingson, and began leading him down 1,463 stairs — step by step — as the tower burned above them.
But Roselle didn’t just guide him. Along the way, she comforted others. One woman, frozen in fear, couldn’t move. Roselle stopped. Nuzzled her. Licked her hand. And gave her the courage to keep going.
They reached the ground just moments before the tower collapsed. Michael survived because his dog never wavered.
Roselle’s vision didn’t come from her eyes it came from instinct, training, and a heart big enough to carry others through the history.
